Often when a pilot leaves residential treatment, there remains unresolved issues, especially with their spouses and other family members. We know an alcoholic and addict in early recovery requires more support and a higher degree of accountability to sustain a recovery and ensure ongoing sobriety. Stress related to family relationships can be a major trigger for a pilot returning back to their home. Returning home too soon for some pilots may contribute to a potential relapse. It is stressful enough for the pilot returning to work to the flight deck and facing colleagues and crew members. Providence Treatment is a Pennsylvania State licensed and Joint Commission accredited, 12-Step driven partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) with its clinical leadership HIMS trained, and therefore, sensitive to the needs of pilots with issues related to alcohol and drug use disorders. We also have an executive, ten-bed sober living residence for professional men (Providence Recovery House) just outside of Philadelphia and minutes from PHL International Airport. Every resident participates in a random, laboratory-based urine and blood monitoring program and a GPS locating system for meeting attendance. The pilot would benefit from the mutual suport from other professional men who are committed to their recovery program.
