Introducing accountability challenges multiple thinking errors. Mostly, the behavior enables a surrender to take place and increased consideration for others in inherent in accountability. For example, taking your chores seriously at the residence, or cooking. The addictive self would think “I don’t feel so great, so I’m not going to cook for the house tonight. They can get another guy to do that.” Instead, a person practicing accountability would think, “Even though I would prefer not to cook, I know it is my turn and the house and staff are depending on me to cook this evening.” The latter shows good accountability to others. Accountability increases sensitivity to others, which helps the addict in their recovery from drugs and alcohol.
Residents staying at Providence Treatment House are required to adhere to a pre-arranged house schedule including daily meditation, daily 12-Step based meetings, maintaining full time employment or volunteer efforts, daily step and inventory work and weekend chores. Residents will be accountable for the house activities as part of their recovery program.
